September 2017 in Senior Infants

What a great month we have had in Senior Infants. We got to play GAA and learn how to catch and kick the football. We really enjoyed playing cups and saucers in our warm-up. In the classroom we loved playing with the tangrams and the new blocks. We used them in our counting. During Well being week we got to give a present to a special friend. We had a brilliant mindfulness session with Tara in the hall. Stevie showed us a new dance. Even the teachers learned the new dance! We look forward to October and let's see what that brings.

Well being week

Dia dhaoibh a chairde! What a week we have had! We have been learning about the importance of well being this week. Each day we have had some wonderful activities planned which centered around the 5 pillars of mental health, connecting, being active, learning, giving and taking notice. Tara, a mother in Claire's class came in to do some mindfulness practice with us, Stevie taught us a new dance, we had lessons outside another day, we have been very giving to each other and tomorrow we will choose a secret friend to look out for during the day to work on "noticing". Conor came in and taught us all about healthy eating, and we even got to try some new fruits and vegetables! Conor was also kin

A super start to school life!

What a wonderful first few weeks we have had in Junior Infants! We have had so much fun making new friends and learning lots of new things. We have learned lots of new songs like '5 in the bed' and '5 little ducks'. We have been singing songs as Gaeilge too. We are especially liking our new song 'Rothaí an bhus'. In art we have been working on our fine motor skills. We discussed our favourite colours and made paper dolls to hang in our window. During circle time we spoke about our Golden Rules. This week we were focusing on our listening skills. We really enjoyed reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood together. We acted out some of the scenes and sequenced the story as a whole class. Learning about our school environment

We have been very busy bees this week in Junior Infants. We started our week with a mindful walk and took note of the school environment. This helped us when it came to drawing our school maps! During morning play we have been working hard on our names and building planes for use in our small world town. We have been taking care of our baby in the home corner, making sure to serve up big tasty dinners. We have been working on cutting straight lines this week and have been having lots of fun playing with our eco house. We learned all about the sounds "p" and "n" and so we have finished our first set of jolly phonics sounds. We will spend some time revising this set next week. In math we have

Our first full week :)

A big "Comhghairdeas" to all our Junior Infants who completed their first full week of school this week. We had so much fun learning about colours and learning our first set of sounds in Jolly Phonics. I nGaeilge, we were learning about "mé féin" and sang two new songs,"Ceann Gualainn, Glúin is Cos" and "Taispeáin dom do lámh". We were ripping and sticking in Art working on our fine motor skills, and had some wonderful circle time where we spoke about our Golden Rules. This week we focused on having kind hands, kind feet and kind words. Next week we will remember to look and listen quietly when someone is speaking to us. We have been practicing our mindfulness every day and really like it af
